Hi! I posted in the health section and I mentioned a bird fair coming up where I was hoping to purchase a baby Senegal. I figured a baby would be best because it would grow up only knowing me basically and I could try to teach it everything right rather than trying to fix what someone else has done. I also figured they would be a lot cheaper at a bird fair. However I was informed that a bird fair may not be the best place and diseases could be a risk.
At the same time I've been talking to a local breeder whom has agreed to meet me half way (8 hour total drive) if I decide to get one from him. The one I'm interested in from him was born the very beginning of March. So right now "she" is very close to 6 months old. The breeder says she will step up, allow to be picked up, will let you pet her against your chest, and already eats fruits and veggies. She's also used to dogs which is also another plus because I do have one, but she's still living at my parents house for now because I moved into an apartment which doesnt accept dogs which I really regret. But anyways so this bird sounds like a good choice but my worries are:
Will it be harder for her to bond with me since shes 6 months old rather than 3 months and is used to the breeder?
Will it be harder training her with anything since I'm not starting with a justtt weaned baby? Or will it actually be less work since she has been introduced to quite a few things so far already?
Oh and shes fledged already! Another plus since I plan to keep my birds wings clipped.
