What to get??

Multiple sites I've visited and ppl I've talked to have told me that they're loud. Especially the sun conures, but I mean, I am new to parrots and I can only go by what I read which is why I'm here. Lol. It just seems like the more research I do the more confused I become as to what species I want.
Please don't tell me "if u don't know what u want u shouldn't get one" I know what I want I just don't know what species will give it to me ya know?

I never really considered an amazon, how big are they?
I'm looking for a relatively small bird, but one big enough that I wouldn't be too worried about accidentally hurting it.

I'm really looking more into a Senegal or maybe a Meyer's. I read Meyer's have similar personalities as the Senegals, but can be sweeter and more cuddly.

Amazons differ quite a lot in size, from the smallest white-fronted amazon which is around 25cm (10") and weigh around 200g to the biggest mealy amazon which is around 40cm (16") and about 600g.

The Senegals and Meyers are both cool birds, Ive had the opportunity to meet a few Meyers, and while they were interested, and outgoing birds, one shouldnt be fooled by their size, the screams of a meyer is piercing and very loud ( I dont know if this is the case with senegals as well?) They were a a bunch of charmers though.

My point with posting was that I think you should try to meet with the birds you are interested in and form your own opinion! At the end of the day, you are going to live with your new buddy for a LONG time to come, and its important for both your and the bird's sake that it feels right !

I really have been trying to play with as many birds as I can, but there's really only one place around where I live with a reasonable selection, yet since they have so many, the sameness is an iffy subject. I've looked at breeders, but many of them are ship only so I won't really know much except what they tell me.
I guess I'll just keep looking and researching and playing and try to figure something out.

Personally, i would never buy from a breeder who didnt allow for visits. The information and experience you get from a serious breeder can be invaluable. Watch out for unprofessional people!

Yea, theres really only one or two breeders in my state that allow visits, but the pet store I've been going to hand feeds them right there behind the counter and they're a little family place so I really would have no problem buying from them. They really seem to know what they're doing it just seem that once the birds are weaned they don't get that same one on one attention daily so they're a little skittish.
There is one baby Senegal I've been playing with, and hes really sweet, but he's missing one toenail on each foot. It doesn't seem to bother him but is it something that should hinder me from getting him?

The Green Cheek Conures among other Pyrhurras are quiet. The Suns are Aratingas that I've mentioned earlier. It's a old piece of knowledge that all Conures are loud, when there are different genuses with varying noise levels.

There are several breeders in the States that are absolute experts of Aviculture and are proven to be excellent breeders with honest information. With such breeders, you don't need to worry even if you are getting a baby shipped.

I personally have horrible experience with an inexperienced local breeder and know of numerous people who have ended up with poorly-fed, unsocialized, force weaned birds by going with a breeder chosen just for close proximity.

I really did like old world's website. They had a lot of information that really helped. I very well may just buy one from them and have them ship it to me. I still just don't know which species I want. Lol.

Another suggestion I have is to go and meet birds at a rescue. You HAVE to meet a bird to truly grasp what it is like, and you might even fall in love with a birdie there. Keep in mind that birds at rescues are mostly perfectly normal birds that owners surrendered for the rescue to find a good home. The good thing about an adult bird is that you get what you see. No baby is guaranteed to talk or be cuddly or be quiet, but with an adult you get what you see.

You can also check your local Craigslist and kijiji, there are many loving birds out there.

Ive actually been looking at Craigslist for a couple weeks, and I've found a few birds tht were really cute, but I'm worried they're already attached to their original owner and won't like me

You know what? Go meet a few that you like! There is nothing to lose and only gain experience.

I know of a few people who have instantly hit it off with rehome birds and they're extremely happy. You know what they say, "let the bird choose you."
