Caiques are very high energy birds and can be difficult to handle. It would be better to have some experience with parrots before getting a caique. If you meet one that you connect with easily though, it could be a good choice for you.

Since you're looking at poicephalus parrots, why not look into a Brown-headed Parrot? They might look plain, but they're very friendly and docile. They have all the good qualities of other pois, but are GENERALLY less likely to bite or develop phobias, from what I've read. It all comes down to socialisation and the individual bird's personality of course.
Or in regards to the suggestion of the white-fronted Amazon... Amazons can be hormonal and difficult to handle, depending on the species. Double Yellow Heads, Yellow Napes and Blue Fronted Amazons are called 'The Hot 3'. They're generally decent talkers, but can have issues with biting and one-person-birdedness. The other species may not be as difficult, but will usually still have those traits to a lesser degree. They're quite large and very loud.
However, you might want to consider a Pionus. Pionus parrots are relatives to the Amazon. They're smaller, gentler, less expensive and much quieter than Amazons. They're generally suited to owners with little experience. Parrotlets are also related to Amazons. They have all the personality in a smaller, quieter package.
What you should do is read up on as many species as you can, and then narrow it down to two or three species to do more extensive research on. Meet as many birds as you can and see if you find a particular individual that you really connect with. It's important to remember that even with all the research you can do, each parrot is still an individual with a distinct personality. Even if you get a bird from a particular species it may end up being completely different from what you expect.
Hope this helps!
