Hello. I could use some assistance

Postby Whoaitsz » Fri Dec 02, 2011 3:34 pm

Hi, my name is Lynn. Fast history: I am almost 33, divorced male with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Tomorrow will be one week since I lost my quaker parrot Kismet. She was my life and heart. She and my dog was here when my wife left me in March. One of my now live-in aides was accepted by Kismet immediately to everyone's surprise... one took months and another was never accepted.

Anyhow, she kept me going and happy with her never ceasing talking, babbling, teasing and yelling when bored. She really was my daughter; her and my dog Snuggles. Unbelievably enough on Wednesday Snuggles got into the road and was hit. She died on impact.

My purpose for posting here is not to whine; that's what Facebook is for! My room is quiet in a bad way and life just plain sucks right now. . I am trying to find a breeder who can work with me on payments for a parrot. I am not looking for pity or discounts; I just need someone to work with me.

What I want more than anything is a White Bellied Caique. They are small enough for me to handle and have such amazing personalities. Anyhow, please help if able and don't worry about me trying to replace Kismet; its impossible and I would not if I could.

1st call the avian shelters. Then call the vet and avian vet that you took your kids too. You never know when they know someone who wants to rehome. You can go on Craigslist also. That is how I found my Myrtle a rescue BF Amazon. Yes she was in bad shape when I got her from a private owner but she has come out of it and is a joy to everyone. :amazon: Rambo was a rehome/rescue but was well cared for and he is now in charge of the house.

Good luck.

I am stuck at home for awhile, and a few times out of boredom I have gone shopping for a bird. Not really, but I like seeing what's out there. It is surprising how many unwanted parrots I have found on craigslist. Even a few Caiques. Most surprising I have found at least five cockatoos for sale. One for only $500. If you are stuck at home maybe just spend some time searching the internet for birds for sale near you, especially craigslist. Take your time looking and you might find exactly what you want at the right price as well as giving an unwanted bird a home.

Myrtle was $300 with cage and toys. I knew she needed me.

The first email I sent the woman was don't sell to a breeder. She emailed back that two breeders had already contacted her. My next contact was a phone call telling her I was on my way with cash.

I am at poverty level but would not give her up for $300,000.

Caiques go for about $600 opening price at the bird fairs here, for a hand fed baby. So, you could probably get one for 450-500 depending on how willing the breeder is to sell. Not bad, I think, considering that they can be upwards of $1200 in certain places.

mine are all rehomed accept for my senegal.
I paid 450 for my senegal, 300 for my cockatoo (euro) and nothing for my grey and my eclectus.
The prices here in the netherlands are a lot different, because a caique will never ever be that expensive here!
Look at selling sites a lot and visit forums where you can only tell about your parrot (not one with all the information this one has) because they usually have a selling post.
I hope you will find one, i know they are cute and whistle like the best.

I second the adoption agencies or animal shelters, perhaps even Craigslist. Too many animals out there in need, and you can own one those ways for a lot less than from a breeder. If you're on the East Coast of the US at all, I can't recommend Phoenix Landing enough! They matched me up with our :senegal: . Not sure how many other such agencies are out there, but you should definitely look into them! Good luck, and sorry for all your recent losses.
