hi,
sadly this is the only one breeder i can find until now, because cockatiel is not domestic bird here(they raised mostly cockatoo or electus)n they quite rare.its impossible to find hand raised one, mostly they are wild caught.so im quite lucky this cockatoo breeder have some little flock of cockatiel ;)

i contact the breeder today n i will pick my cute tiel up tomorrow at 3.pm afternoon.i choose the male one,i read a lot about egg laying n agression for the female one n it seems difficult.i just pray everything is gonna be okay-really nervous but very happy.

thanks everybody for the help!!!

I would definitely recommend a hand-raised lovebird for a first bird. If they are hand raised, they are full of energy, personable, and quite the little clowns. You will see your lovebird hanging upside down or dropping things to get your attention. A common myth: there has to be two to be happy. Not true. If you want a bird that is bonded to you, one is all you need. As long as you give him at least 4 hours of interaction, and toys for his cage so he doesn't get bored when you are not home, he will be one happy little guy! I've had wonderful experiences with lovebirds, and they make fantastic little companions. As far as pet stores, it is best to get a baby from a reputable breeder who specializes in hand raising, so it is accustomed to human contact from a young age. :) Hope this was helpful

hi Melon, do a forum search for DIY, and also a google search for: diy birdtoys.
should give you some ideas about what you can create yourself for your new little cockatiel, and if you so that you new little birdie can see you while you build the toys he will be wery curiouse with them once you put them in his cage. there are plenty of things you can make your bird yourself, atleast over here birdtoys are quite expensive so i find it quite worth making what i can by myself and then sometimes I do buy toys as well. I also buy babytoys that is colorful and birdsafe, these isnt expensive at all...
And if your allowed to touch your cockatiel already your off for an excellent start, using the word allowed kind of means it willingly lets you touch it and isnt cornered and tries to get aay from you while you touch it :)

Best of luck, and good for you and a potentional bird that you found a breeder and didnt buy a wild caught bird!

I cage my lovies seperate from my tiels but when they are all out they form a big flock. When it is time to go back in cages the lovies go in the tiel cage and I have to get them out. Because they are all bonded pairs my lovies get territorial in a combined cage. If I had a BIG aviary I could leave them together.

Myrtle is even okay with the little ones but because Rambo can't fly he resents them flying around him.

hi everybody,
first of all i want to say for all the help n idea that all of u give to me.
after i think, think,n think again me n my husband finally decided to adopt cockatoo from rescue.
i search a lot n i realized cockatoo here is a domestic bird, they have a ton of product for their care, they sell a lot of type for their toys n specially this one,the vet here is very professional to take care of their illness or emergency, sometimes they offer them hotel too if u want to go to vacation for some days.i can say-its complete.
there is male cockatoo(mini sulpur yellow crest cockatoo) in rescue,2 years old, crave for attention n looking for home.the owner's father sick n he need money for paying hospital n he cant give attention or care anymore to the cockatoo.when i went there he just asking me if i can, please take the bird from him-the bird wing's is plucked n bald already because he too much leave the bird alone n stay in hospital.
well,i still have time to think more n i hope i can be sure soon.all comment are welcome, please.

I absolutely adore cockatoos however if you were concerned that a cockatiel would be too dusty a cockatoo is dustier. and alot louder :) So you might have to speak with your neighbours and see if they are okay with the sound of a cockatoo next door. Besides that I was too small when my mother and father were divorced and the cockatoo they had moved with my father, so all I remember was the off weekend every now and then when i visited, and I always had a playmate when i visited! that cockatoo was amazing, amases me sometimes how it allowed me and my younger brother to carry it around like a baby and playing fetch etc for as much time as we did... eventually i flew off to the cage tho, and i remember us not being allowed to go up to the cage but we were allowed to call her from the other room, and if she came we were allowed to play with it, if not we had to respect she wanted to be alone... great memories! but, as i mentioned, the sound is LOUD! :)

Polarn - that cockatoo was a happy, social, well adjusted and RESPECTED bird. What wonderful memories you have. I believe the respected part is what made it such a great friend.

My opinion: I would go for the cockatoo in need. A friend in need will evolve to be your best friend.

i beleive the respected part played a big role as well, and thats why I try and leave my bluefronted alone when he is inside his cage, sure i must admit i ask him to vawe every now and then even if he is in the cage playing to have an excuse to give him a treat :) but i wont ask him to do something he is hesitant about or doesn't do 100% of the times i ask him.. I kind of want the cage to be a place he can go and feel safe if he ever feels unconftible with a houseguest or something, and not to be a place where he HAS to be... it do take some adjustment to your living space to be able to have it that way though.... and some calm to not be agitated if you forgot to put something away and got it chewed on :)
