Should I get a female or male Senegal Parrot?

Postby purple-blizzard » Sat Feb 11, 2012 1:14 pm

Hi, I am new to The Parrot Forum. I have recently been wanting a pet parrot. I have narrowed the choices down to just a Senegal Parrot. Though, I am having trouble to decide if I should get a male or female Senegal. I have read that both are loving, but females are more territorial and the males bite more often. I would love if someone would tell me some facts about both based on their personalities AND what gender you would recommend. Thanks much! (: :senegal:

I think you're going to have a hard time finding a store or breeder that even knows what the sex of the birds they sell is. Usually the only way you'll find out what the sex of the bird is, is to take it to a vet to take a DNA sample AFTER you buy it. You're not likely to notice a big difference between the sexes, however I've read that males tend to be better talkers. Note that Senegals aren't usually great talkers anyways.
