Help me identify my childhood parrots

Postby *#.. » Wed Feb 15, 2012 9:22 pm

Hi everyone,

When I was 4-5 years old, we were bequeathed 2 parrots, Dakota and Keo.

Dakota was a large, all-dark green bird with a black beak. He was very mean, and my dad would have to use thick gloves to change his water/food. Other parrot owners have suggested it was a military macaw, but the green was darker than the military macaw, and it did not have any other colored feathers besides green.

Keo was small to medium-sized with all-navy feathers and a yellowish beak. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of either one, so if you could list any parrots you know of that fit my descriptions, that would be great. Thanks!

Keo was probably a Bronze Winged Pionus

The large parrot sounds like it could be an Amazon

I was thinking the same but even the green giant the mealy amazon has some color to their wings, not really visible unless they spread them tho. But if it wasnt a macaw the thoguhts went to the mealy amazon.

The larger one could have been a severe macaw or a yellow-collared macaw without much of a collar.
