parent raised conure vs. handfed

Postby cknowles » Tue Mar 06, 2012 9:23 pm

Hi my gcc's have two babies in the nest and I have the other two in the brooder being handfed. I am thinking about letting them raise the two they have. So my question is do parent raised birds still make good pet/companions? I would still want them to be playful, fun and still like to be with me. I know they might need to be worked with, but how long would I have to work with them? I am asking this not because I cant handfeed them, but because I think it would be nice to let them raise a couple of babies. Would the babies still be social?
Anyone with parent raised birds are more than welcome to share their experiences, thanks.

Go with co-parenting, a little bit of both. You will have nippy, wild birds if you do complete parent raising.

Well the pairs cage is in my room and I am in their a lot so do you think just letting them see me will be ok? And when they are fledgling they will be out in the cage so do you think talking to them and handling them will work? My pair is pretty touchy will nest box intrusions.
