If you were originally considering a Senegal, which is from the Poicephalus family, I would suggest a calmer version of the Senegal, which is the Brown Headed parrot. It is always best to get a baby from a breeder as this will likely ensure a calmer and tamer bird. Brown Heads may not be as colorful as the Senegal, but they make up for this in personality. They are also not readily available everywhere. Good luck in your search

GlassOnion wrote:Wait, you want a bird that isn't hyper but somehow you came upon wanting a caique?!? Caiques are the most hyper, active, manic birds you can find. As in, they will either always be 100% on like a puppy on crack or 100% off- no in between. They're also known to be extremely moody and go jekyll/hyde with no warnings. They are intense animals. You need to do further research on the caique, they are the OPPOSITE of what you say you want. Also, if you ever want another bird in the 20-30yrs of the caique's life, watch out. One will often try to kill other birds that isn't a caique, like literally downright kill.

Being a Black Headed Caique owner myself, I could not have said it better Glass Onion! Very loud, aggressive, very nipy, and they cannot talk. They mumble very few words but it hard to understand. They are good whistles though. I would STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST A CAIQUE.
