Yeah, apologies for the frantic posts... just got really frustrated

I'm on the hunt now to see if I can find any groups in the UAE for bird owners. No luck so far which is how I ended up on here lol I don't know how to get on the grape vine as I don't personally know any other bird owners

I haven't found local breeders after weeks of searching. I know there is a rule here that you have to have a license to sell any animal. Makes even rehoming something you have tricky seeing as you can't technically ask money for it (not openly anyway). The shops and animals markets just tell me they import everything. I don't know is it's cheaper because they do it in such large numbers or something

Argh what a pain. I would seriously have to consider moving if it was like that here, I love animals far too much. If your local petshops import birds is there any chance of asking them for advice on people to contact for further info? Make sure it's one with a good reputation though if you can. They may not be willing to help though because obviously they are wanting to make money for themselves so may suggest importing one from god only knows where to sell on to you which would probably be more costly. Probably not as much as 3,000 though I would hope. Not sure I would want to go that route myself but I guess its such a big risk buying birds you havent seen anyway it wouldn't be too much more of a risk doing it through a petshop. It would be less of a risk if the petshop would allow you to only pay a small deposit on a bird, at least you wouldn't be losing too much money if things went wrong. I have no idea if they would be agreeable to that but may be worth a go if you can't get any good reports elsewhere?

Hi All of this offers you have listed are scams!
Be careful you will not get any bird imported here from a privet breeder here.
I live in Dubai for more then 12 years and I have both my parrots from Satwa. They where both babies and the Macaw was import from South Africa and the gray was a locally breed.
Please Google the pet shops and ask them if they can imp[ort you a parrot. here they mostly come from South Africa.
All Cameroon and other country adds are scams.
I have got my macaw for 4000 dhs (which is 3-4 times les then the big pet shops) I strongly advise you to go to the pet shop market in Satwa or Sharjah (I do not know if Abu Dhabi have one like this) and speak with the owners. The are all importing birds from South Africa and I'm sure you will be able to find one to help you.
I also have tried to find a local parrot group but for the past 3 years no luck. I have my birds from that time.
I read on the net and order all my parrot toys from USA. If you wish to keep in touch PM me and I will give you my contact number.
I also have 2 kids and got my Macaw one when my youngest was 3 so that should not worry you wish to have a Galah. As far as I know they are the easiest of the cockatoos and you can easily get them here.
I have never seen a Senegal, Maiers or any other pionus here.
The market is very limited and local people here like big birds and the one they are easy to sell (the one they usually speak)

And by the way I have the import papers for my parrots from the shop I got them. So if you agree with the owner they will give you the copy of the import permit for the birds they sell you.
Be really careful with the online seller I'm positive that this are scams.
You will see they all will ask you to send money true Western Union!

Thanks for the post.

Already decided can't be bothered with importing privately since the last post. I also asked google to check the credibility of their ad' sense campaigns as this cameroon one was the only one coming up...and surprise surprise I haven't seen it for days! No message back from them though

To be honest I'm really disappointed as when I kept reptiles it was easy to get in touch with a high end breeder in USA or Germany and have them sent over whenever the next batch is due to UK. Doesn't seem to be anything like that with birds. I have decided at the end of the day that this is probably a good thing if I want to make sure the bird likes me but still frustrating.

I have tried asking at Al Ain and Mina souq and two pet shops but no one can get them in and told me to go sharjah souq. Like you say though...it's all greys, IRN, budgies, 'teils, love birds, rosellas, the odd cockatoo...not the species I'm looking for :(

We are still smitten with the blue headed pinous although we are also leaning towards a blue quaker parrot. One the one hand you have your 'perch potato' on the other something a little more 'spunky' I think at the end of the day it will depend which one is more available.
At the moment neither of us drive so can't get to sharjah souq but to be honest we do need to move back to Abu Dhabi city first anyway before buying another bird.

If you PM me your details I would love to keep in touch. Don't know anybody who keeps birds over here :( except Imad who just got his rose breasted cockatoo that is, but we have never met!

Hey, sorry I don't have much to contribute to this, but... I just wanted to warn you. PLEASE do not get a bird from Cameroon. IT IS A SCAM. I have heard countless, COUNTLESS stories from people getting "Cameroon" scammed. They mainly do it with puppies, but I'm sure they would with birds too. The story usually goes something like this:

Interested Person (IP): Hello, I saw your ad on (insert site here, craigslist, Kijiji, etc) for Yorkie puppies. Can you please give me more information?

Scammer (Mind you, this is usually with terrible grammar/spelling): Yes of course. I have 3 puppies, they are very small. Two males and one female. They are all available. Very sweet and love being held. Are you interested in male or female?

IP: I would like a female please, could you send me pictures?

Scammer: Yes, female is good. Here are some pictures: (Pictures will be attached, usually pictures of very young puppies with bows in their hair, etc.) The price for the puppy is only $400. Where are you located?

IP: I am in USA. California. I like the female, do you ship her?

Scammer: Yes, ship to California will be $2000 USD. Puppy only $400 so total is $2400. She will come with a carrier, leash, and toy. Send Western Union money gram to: (Insert name/e-mail/etc) and puppy will be shipped tomorrow and you can pick up at (insert airport) in 48 hours.

IP: Okay, sounds great thank you!

Two days later, the person goes to pick the puppy up, but of course there is no puppy. They have already sent $2400 to the scammer and they will never get it back.

BE CAREFUL!!! Good luck in your search of a Pionus. :)

Do any of you know of a legitimate pet store in Dubai that imports their birds from South Africa?
I am moving to Dubai in a few months and want to bring my African Grey but everyone is telling me that there is a ban and no birds can be brought in from any african countries.
So I'm very upset at the moment. I don't want to give my bird away, I want to bring him with me.

I am hoping that if I get in touch with someone that imports birds legitimately from South Africa, they might be able to bring him for me :(

Any help is appreciated.
