mmm i guess cockatiel will be great for you :)
my neighbour is very bird lover.he keep cockatiel, sun conour,6 budgies,1 grey and 1 green amazon.
i can say staw away from sun conour,if u not used to loud sound.2-3 days will be cool but some people cant tolerate it if they have to hear it everyday, every minute.maybe you could but neighbour?

he has white face cockatiel, which is so cute.really calm and seems can tolerate new people.i think they are cuddly too.
ok i cant lie that his amazon is very beautiful.but sometimes can be so agresive.he said he used to cuddle with he amazon and suddenly the amazon can nip him.it can happen anytime, mostly the time that he dsnt even expecting a bite.
so good luck,my opinion is cockatiel good for you. ;)

If you live in an apartment by all means don't even think of getting an amazon parrot! Even the milder amazons like green cheeks can be VERY LOUD usually at sunrise and around sunset and there is no way that your neighbors in an apartment could tolerate that. Many apartments have restrictions on birds and will allow you to have cockatiels, parakeets (budgies), green cheek conures or possibly lovebirds.

You can have a great pet with any of these relatively quiet hookbills. You should defer any amazon, cockatoo, African Grey or similar larger parrot species until you live in a house with neighbors that are not too close to you. Small birds can be a lot of fun and can provide you with great companionship.

i don't know if anyone mentioned it but never own a snake and a bird. snakes eat birds and even if they never get that close, the bird may be afraid knowing its there. i could be wrong but it seems like a bad idea. :gray: :amazon:

In that case people shouldn't own cats, dogs, ferrets etc either. Any predator animal can cause a bird stress. Lots of things can be put in place depending on the animals and circumstances involved. Seperate rooms, out times, extra locks to prevent escapes etc. As long as your clever about it and keep the snake where the bird cannot see and fit locks, it it's probably safer than having a dog or cat in the house.

My budgie got swallowed by a wild black snake in our bedroom, regurgitated, then eaten again and lived! Budgies rock!!!

He was traumatized out of speaking a peep for about two weeks, poor dear... =( But he is perfectly fine now, you'd never know. The good thing is he was already tamed so he knew to come to me for protection and I could comfort him rather than scare him more.

The best would be a scaly breasted lorikeet that was my first bird and he was so good I now have six because of him they are possessive of you but they are very loyal

How in the world did he survive that?!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.
