I suppose I'm on the market for another bird...

I might as well announce this. Personality, (The nickname I gave to my now dead frozen bird..) has, well, flown the coop. I owned (Or maybe he almost owned me) for 2 weeks, but he really touched me. He had no reason to care for me, yet he opened himself up to new possibilities, and I know that took some real courage and willpower. The last time I was with him, he was ramming his little head behind my neck, leaching every bit of warmth he could from me. I truly do miss the little things about him, and living without a bird now seems far harder than living with one. So now I'm looking for a successor to the Personality legacy. Maybe something other than a budgie, but still small. I have a 17.5 x 13.5 x 24.5 " cage already prepared...

P.S. I'm quite sure of the cause of death, it was a stupid mistake on my part, and it cost a young birds life. I don't need anyone else telling me how to live my life with a bird or without. I made my decision and it would help if you just answered the question to the best of your ability.

Long Live Personality. :bluebudgie:

Sorry to hear about the poor bird.

This part of your post is far more important than the first. People should never buy another bird unless/until the cause of death is thoroughly analyzed and can be solved/prevented in the future. I think you should wait at least a month no matter what for several reasons. First it gives you time to get your thoughts together and really analyze if you should get another bird and not make a spontaneous decision out of sorrow that you later regret. Also, it gives time for things to disinfect and sterilize.

That cage doesn't sound big enough for anything bigger than a budgie. So unless you end up getting a budgie, parrotlet, lovebird (although I'm not sure if they need a bigger cage than their proportion cause of their really big personality), or maybe cockatiel, you'll need to replace the cage anyway. I really strongly urge you to take plenty of time and not rush into getting another bird to immediately fill the void.

Im sorry for your loss :(.

I agree with Michael with regards to the cage, its too small for anything but a budgie (if that), so if you decide on a bigger bird, you might need to upgrade.

Dont make a quick decision now, but think it over well, and do research into other species before deciding. The forum is here to help you with experience from different birds as well!

I know, most of the species I'm looking at from local breeders won't be weaned and such for another month anyways. The only problem that I really want to look at is having a flighted parrot because, other than something it could have had from the petstore, my budgie died because I let him into get into something that I shouldn't have. I confess that it was my fault, but I'm proud to say that one learning and loving experience can lead to a better one. I've looked around and I know that I'll need a bigger cage no matter what I get. I suppose I'll just sell the one I have on craigslist after I sanitize it. Is birdcages.com a safe place to buy and have a cage shipped from? Some of them look the right size and are pretty cheap. Thanks a lot guys.

I would suggest an A&E flight cage, it takes up less room than you think and is quite spacious as well. Look at www.mysafebirdstore.com
