opinions requested re: adding a Pionus

Postby Jenny » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:44 pm

Hello all,
I'm considering adopting a female Pionus from a trust-worthy rescue organization in my area. I currently have a male tiel, and am hoping to provide him w/some company while I'm gone during the day. I'm aware of how to quarantine - I'm not really asking for "how do I", but more just for general opinions/feedback on adding this type of parrot to my household, from those familiar w/the species.

Thanks in advance,
Jenny

Which kind of pionus?

I have a bronze winged pionus, and he is the most gentle parrot ever.

thanks for responding so quickly! :D

She's a white-capped. She's a pretty thing, & from what I've experienced w/her & been told, she's very docile. I'd seen on another forum that Pionus had a reputation for going after smaller birds, but the rescue org tells me that they've had this little girl in open areas around plenty of other birds & she's never shown that kind of aggression. I'll definitely take it slow & careful as I introduce her to my tiel, assuming I do proceed w/the adoption. Right now, the aggression rep is my biggest concern, & what I'm hoping to get a better feel for from this thread. Hearing that your bronze-wing is a softie helps a bunch!
