do i really need more parrot??

Postby naomi » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:52 pm

guys..
please help me to decide :)
i've been offered by someone to adopt his goffin cockatoo because he is very busy now,and the bird gets lonely.the bird is tamed(prefered woman) but shy to a stranger.he said its a female and almost 3 years old.i really like the bird but im still doubt about it.my husband also agree to bring the home so now all the answer is on my hand.

my problem is,i have an african grey and i dont know if they can tolerated each other.my CAG show an agression everytime i interact with my other birds.so i would like to know how CAG temperament/jealousy with other birds and how Goffin temperament/jealousy with other birds also.
can they share their fav person easily?i will need to answer yes or no to him this weekend :(

i really apreciated the reply!!thanks

*please post me any info about goffin also

too's are very possessive of people and things and they demand constant attention. it's not impossible though.is there any way to set up a meeting with the 2 birds before bringing a new one home?that's the only way to know for sure if they will get along.my :corella: was caged with another bird before she went to the rescue that's the only reason i brought her home with my :gcc:.she does get annoyed with him sometimes and has tried to grab ahold of him lucky for him he's a fast flier, and seems to read her body language and knows when to get away from her.

thanks penny,
i was thinking to set up meeting first but the owner wasnt really nice person honestly,he even said if i bring the bird home he will NOT accept any return because he dsnt have time anymore to look and look.this is really make me doubt,im not even sure if the bird not abused.the goffin is complete fur(not pluck) and flight and my CAG is clipped from before.and other problem is i dont have any bird room so they will need to be in the same room.can you tell me how cockatoo temper is?im sacred she will always attack my CAG and he cant defend himself because he cant fly.he used to be out from morning til night so i dont think so i will be able to cage him when the new Too is out.

what you think?is possible to bring the bird to home with my condition? :(

If your CAG is used to being out you can't take that away from him. Why is he clipped?

I got my Myrtle from a woman whos CAG was assalting and terrifing her. So in my mind the CAG is the aggresor but that is the only CAG I ever met.

You would only be able to take the Too out when you could stay with it. The first bird has sinority and the second bird has to learn that.

If he is so animent to get rid of it then I would be afraid for the Too. You could always take it and if it doesn't work find a better home for it.

the too temper is bad.i have a scar on my finger just for sitting next to my boyfriend, who she has claimed for her own, she bit to the bone.she has gotten over that with work.i would go with liz i couldn't leave a bird with someone like that.it's up to you whether you can take on a too they need alot of attenion, you have to cook for them every day,and you have to worry about your :gray: safety and the goffins if your :gray: decides he doesn't like the intruder.you could get in touch with a rescue let them know what's going on and ask if they could take the too if it doesn't work out so your not stuck.if he is selling you this bird and you have to surrender it you won't get your money back.let us know how everything works out.
