can not decide which to get

Postby niki26 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:36 pm

I am looking at getting a Quaker ot a White ear green cheek Conure. I had a Cockatoo years ago. She died from cancer. I am looking for a smaller parrot to add to the family. I am looking for a loving bird and one that will want to be touched and held. I knew someone with a Quaker it was not a very nice bird, but I think it never got the time and care it needed. I have never known anyone with a Conure. I would like your imput on these two parrots please. I could use the help.

i have a blue quaker parrot, and she must me some kind of exception to quakers... I work at a pet shop and 4 of my co workers have quakers... every one of them are "blood thirsty" they say. My pluto is so far the nicest bird i know. She has only ever nipped females and it doesnt happen all the time. She loves to give me TONS of kisses all day. She also LOVES to be on my shoulder and preen my hair and beard. Be warned they can be very loud at times, but they have very silly personalitys.

i am just now getting her on pellets (it was not hard at all) all I had to do was pretend the pellets were super cool and super tasty, and the next day she was eating them

I have found that she wont eat anything she doesnt see me eat or that she is unfarmiliar with. (yes I did pretend to eat the pellets)

she is very bonded to me and will go after and growl at anyone that tries to take her off my shoulder. (she doesnt bite them)

be warned they need lots of training or they will become very territorial of their cage expecially during breeding season.

I had a great Quaker hen for 23 years who like me and only me. She was affectionate with me and no-one else. She was a great companion and I miss her. I have 2 green cheeked conures (a turquoise and a pineapple). They are very affectionate wonderful and quiet little guys. They chirp a bit, but neither of them screech or make any loud sounds. They are true acrobats and love to play with their swing toys and ring their bells. I can watch them for hours.

The Quakers can be quite loud. If you live in an apartment the green cheek conure may be a better choice.
