Are YOU the owner of an uncommon parrot?

Postby Arshia » Wed Jun 27, 2012 1:29 pm

So species-wise - and this isn't objective, so just do your best - do you own a unique, uncommon parrot? Something no one else on this forum has?
Like a toucan, or rosella?

Points for including a picture. Extra points for including a video of it doing something COOL, like recalling or doing tricks, or just cuddling :D

I have a canary winged parakeet which seem to be uncommon. I don't know why, brotogeris are perfect birds in my opinion. Affectionate, loyal, comical, fairly quiet... Mine is so smart and has quite the vocabulary. I tried to post a video and pictures but this forum just won't cooperate. Says all my files are too large or the wrong size. :-(

Believe it or not---I'd qualify Jacko as an uncommon parrot.

A lot of people ask me 'ooh, looks just like an african grey---what is that?'
To which I say, 'she's a timneh african grey---the smaller of the two kinds of african grey'.
Most don't believe me and are convinced she's something that looks like an african grey  she's even been a lesson 'parrot species 101' for new interns at my vet :D

I have a young green cheeked amazon. It's on the endangered species list so I guess it's "uncommon".

Kacey, Terri, Good job! :D
I saw the slender billed cockatoo on youtube, and haven't seen anything like it before. I wish you posted pictures though *sigh*

A TAG is just an African Grey, and I've heard about them many times before, so nothing too mindblowing. I like the picture though

And lots of species that are commonly owned domestically are classified as endangered, so I really don't think that qualifies it. Like the sun conure - I've seen them lots of them before as pets, but they aren't too amazing. If you pulled out a Kakapo on the other hand... ;)

It's a shame they're endangered. I'd die to have one.

I'm not sure they are "uncommon" but my White Bellied Caique is the only one I've seen on these boards. We have a black headed Caique here too- but haven't seen a WBC :caique:
