Black Cap Caique Owners

Postby egenlauf » Tue Aug 07, 2012 1:04 pm

I have a BCC that is around 2 now. He is an awesome bird and now that we know each others personality we get along pretty well. Does anyone have an older BCC, he is a constantly moving ball of energy and absolutely never stops, do they ever "mellow"? When he is out he is flying around or wrestling with my hands and running all over the place bouncing on his perches, swinging upside down in his cage or on his stand. Sometimes he is just so wound up that he wants to bite and wrestle a little too much and gets way too carried away. I know he is just expanding some of that energy that he built up in his cage all day but at times it's a bit too much and I have to just put him on the stand or back in his cage because my hands just cant take it.

yeah when he comes out I can put him on his playstand and as soon as I walk away he wants to come over to me. Typically even if my wife takes him out, he loves her, but when he wants to play and wrestle he knows she is not one to be able to take it :) I typically can beak wrestle with him more (he grabs hold of my finger, hand etc and shakes his head around like a dog) and he loves it but she can't take it since he has such a strong little beak. If I want to keep him on the stand I fill one of the cups with some sunflower seeds and he will hang out over there. He loves nothing more than to fly over to the play top on my cockatoo's cage I guess cause it's higher in the air than his stand.

Does your caique get along with your gallah? Sammy seems very aggressive toward any other birds and so he usually can't be out with any of the other birds. I have been trying to socialize through the cages him and Peanut but he always seems to want to lash out and bite at her which makes her want to run to the other side of the cage away from him.

Caiques are aggressive birds .They will even go after a bird bigger than them.I only let Greta and Sammy kiss each other ,Greta always turns mean.I read this book once and this guy turned his whole house into a bird rescue,He had like a too room macaw, amazon etc.He said there were no cages and they were all on perches.[it wasnt a problem].But the caiques had to be in cages cause they would try to take them all on [there was only 5 of them!!] This cracked me up because I can picture it ,The Caique gang taking on the whole house :D About the biting issue, I get my caiques beaks groomed [this helps] Try not to touch his beak while hes out.[It may take awhlie].This will encourage them to be less beaky.Dont touch the beak :D

Random question for you caique owners: how long do their beaks get? Every picture I've seen online has normal sized beaks, but every caique I've seen in person has realllllly long beaks. Are they supposed to get that long?

yeah Sammy gets his nice and sharp to a point, I am amazed at this point that I don't have a pierced lip lol. Every once in a while he will be cuddly and just hang out with us but usually when he can tell we are upset about something. Other than that he loves to surf my wife's web hair, he goes NUTS and ends up soaking wet because he will rub all over her hair.
