I cant find a Brownheaded (Brown Head) Parrot!

Postby hayley2109 » Thu Aug 23, 2012 2:42 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a 6 month old Brown Headed parrot. I was told when I bought her that this type of parrot was rare, it is only after research have I realised just how rare!

Anyway, what I would like to know is whether or not she can be housed with another species? I have recently started days at work and am concerned she may get lonely. My problem is that I cant find another Brown Head anywhere...please help! Thank you x

Just a note: It seems to me that poicephalus parrots (of which a brown head is one) like their own space, so you would probably want a separate cage for your new parrot regardless. They will likely be happy to have a buddy to call to and interact with I'm sure, just not actually in their personal space.

Also she might get lonely but that doesn't mean that you should get another parrot. You should definitely try to amuse her with toys, music, tv, a window, foraging, etc, rather than get another parrot for her. If you want another parrot that's another thing. However, on that note, you should keep in mind the fact they may bond better with one another than you and many other factors.

I have a brown headed parrot and really love him. From all that I have read, they like their space. The parrot rescue, that I volunteer with, has a Senegal and she stays to herself. All the birds (52) there are out of the cages 24/7 and I can usually find Moosie in a window sill or on a cage top by herself.

I alo have a parrotlet in a separate cage. Both are out 1-2 hours in the morning and have nothing to do with each other. They have lots of toys and both play alone all day. My brown headed loves his foot toys and puts several in his water bowl everyday. He has all kinds of shredders, a big, natural wood swing, toys with bells, wicker fans, 4 differnt types of perches. Give your parrot lots to do and out time when you are home. If you just want another bird for 'company', pick one you like and keep it in a separate cage with his own array of toys.

Hi there. I have a 1.5 year old BH which I got from a fantastic breeder here in Ontario, Canada. She tolerates all my other birds, but she doesn't interact with them. She totally keeps to herself, and I couldn't see her liking another bird, even if it was another BH.
