Breeder sold an aquaintance an un-weaned cockatoo

Postby Wayne361 » Sat Oct 20, 2012 11:53 am

Hey....just want some opinions on this. A buddies friend bought an umbrella cockatoo from a breeder that wasnt fully weened. I raised questions about this practise and was told that the breeder insisted that this would create a closer bond between new owner and the bird. I called BS on this one. Maybe breeder was making room for more stock and/or saving time/$ by getting their birds to market. btw took about another month to fully wean.....

Thoughts? Is this normal practise and I am over-reacting?

Its unfortunatly normal practice, but you are completely correct, its bullshit. Breeders (unserious breeders) do this to increase their income per bird.
Birds should never be purchased unless fully weaned!
