Are they affectionate, also would they get along with a cockatiel when they're out of their cages?

Thank You :) :meyers: :greycockatiel:

My family has a meyer's parrot. I believe his behavior is pretty typical for the species, since I have met several other Meyers parrots and similar species like red bellies at bird stores and they seem to have the same mannerisms and behavior.

As for being affectionate, it depends on what you mean. My Meyers does not cuddle. If you try, he will wiggle out or nip your fingers until you let him go. However, he LOVES neck scratches, he gives kisses and talks and whistles to me. Really, I've seen very few parrots that will cuddle beyond their babyhood (with the exception of cockatoos).

Since my family only has the one Meyer's parrot, I have no experience in trying to get two birds to get along. I would guess that it depends on the individual bird and how you handle the situation. For sure, you will have to expose them to each other gradually and use positive reinforcement. I would not leave them alone together without supervision.
