This happened to my budgie. I tamed my budgie in a few weeks but after a couple months he started biting and doing what you described? I kept working with him passively by just talking to him and when his mood seemed better I would step up. I also kept his roof open from then on so he can come out whenever he wanted and I still do. And eventually this phase ended. Right now he is back to his sweet self of no biting and is even better then he was before. I basically chalked it To him going through maturity.

I used to have a pair of budgies some time back, and this is exactly what happened with my girl budgie. And it happened exactly around the same time as yours - when her cere started turning tan.

I think Crazy4sierra might be right:

what helped with my girl budgie was handling her in a separate room, so she could continue to maintain an independent bond with me, and know that I was the source of yummy treats. :)

Let us know how things go!

She's still the same. I've been talking to her and placing my hand in the cage near her so she can get used to it again. I forced her out last night which I think was probably not the best idea. She stayed on my shoulder for a little bit but flew back to her cage as soon as she saw it.

AlbertaAviary, there's a great idea that CaitlinRice posted about setting up a table with a sheet (to keep the training area small) that might work for you. Its in the thread titled "taming a bird under a sheet" in the Taming section . I think this would really help. It seems to me that the fact that you have a boy and girl budgie who seem like they are already starting to bond with each other means that you'll have to work with them together - the girl budgie simply may not want to deal with you unless her boy buddy is there with her. With my budgies, my girl was always more focused, obedient and better behaved overall when her boy buddy was close by.

I'm realizing that the suggestion I had made earlier of taking her into a separate room for yummy-treat bonding will stress her out too much. it would have worked if she was less bonded to the boy, and if he was just a distraction. but it seems to me that this girl budgie is seriously bonded to the bird. i think you might have better success at training each one while the other is right there nearby. so check out Caitlin's idea, and let us know how it works for you. good luck!
