Ringnecks Scared of Colour?

Postby CarlosQuaker » Sun Dec 23, 2012 3:57 pm

Last night I had a dream that I was going to a buy a male green Indian Ringneck. It's morning and I still can't get it out of my head! So I started to google them and found this:

"Ringnecks recognize color. Beware, they are terrified of RED, especially as a baby. Do not try to handle them while wearing red nail polish. The bird's eyes will flash and he will lunge and bite at your nails. Don't hang red toys in or near the cage. Avoid wearing red when handling your baby. As your bird matures he should slowly learn to tolerate red. By a year old my own pets no longer reacted to the color red."

Is this true? I've never heard of birds being scared of colours, but I'm still new in the parrot world. For me, it seemed a bit too crazy to be true.

I found it on this website: http://www.mresource.com/Birds/PERPET.HTM
It was under the heading "Behavior and Discipline".

I think any bird can be afraid of nailpolish and bright colors.I dont wear nailpolish much but my sunconure and Hawkhead are always the first to notice when I do.The sunconure is the one trying to nip at them.

Maybe the person who wrote the article had a bird who hated red and wrote it from his own personnel experience.i wouldn't say that they would hate a certain colour it's more depends on the bird itself

My ringneck had issues with certain brightly colored objects, but the IRN I had as a child didn't care. It's kinda hard to judge what may or may not freak out a bird, seeing as how they can see things we can't.

hi
i read that indian ringnecks are especally sensitive to red because it acts as a stimulus to the female, and their beaks are red so this makes sense.
when i give my female I :irn: rn a bead wich is red she will try to feed it i think she mistakes it for the beak of another bird.

Also my irn hates a terquiose jumper that i was given and freaks out when people are wearing brifght white quite often. they see altaviolet light so maybe that has something to do with it?
