The GCC appreciation thread

Postby Andromeda » Sat Jan 19, 2013 9:22 am

What are your favorite things about your :gcc:?

Here are 3 of mine (all of which seem to be species-wide) from my GCC's point of view:

1. "The dance"

Directions: Fan out tail. Puff out chest. Flatten the feathers on the top of your head but puff up the ones on the back of your head, forming an angle. Pace back and forth with long strides.

Reasons: SUPER EXCITING THINGS! Super exciting things include running water (THE most exciting thing in all of existence), rock music featuring electric guitars, the sound of the vacuum, or humans clapping and talking in excited voices. Being let out of your cage or being uncovered in the morning is also super exciting!

Instructional video:

(Not me)

2. "The Lean/Tick"

Directions: Feathers same as above. The perch is too short for the pacing, so instead, stand completely still, lean to one side, and quickly snap your body back into an upright position.

Reasons: SUPER EXCITING THINGS! Same as above.

Instructional video:

(Not me)

3. "Cuddly Conure"

Directions: Cuddle up next to a human's neck, arm, or the palm of their hand. Be sure to really LEAN into it! Puff up. Put one foot up. Nap for 5 - 30 minutes. Decide that you are done very abruptly and suddenly become nippy.

Reasons: Sleepy. Nap time.

(Here I am!)

:D what a cute post! Your GCC is ADORABLE !!!!! :gcc: :P

The videos of the other dancing ones are very cute, and of great instructional value to any GCCs out there who may still be working on those fancy dance moves - as for Ringo, he seems to already know them, cuz Ive seen him do very similar things! :D

This is a great idea for a thread, by the way .... :)

3 more things to love about GCCs: :gcc:

:gcc: their fondness for water - how they will come running to jump into a bath bowl you've set out for them, even if theyve just taken a bath a few hours ago!

:gcc: the way they hold their food with their feet - such little birds, acting like the big guys!

:gcc: their raspy and gravely voices.

yay :gcc: 's :P

Haha Not surprising, I''ve seen quite a few videos of GCCs online and they all seem to have the same "moves." My husband and I get a real kick out of imagining them wild, in a big flock, all doing that dance---probably because they found water!

Haha This is so true! Just yesterday I gave my GCC a bath, he dried off after a couple of hours, and then the moment he was dry my husband was washing his hands and he jumped in the sink and took a second bath.

If he hears running water in another room (like the shower or the kitchen sink) he flies in to dance about it and I think they are all like this. :gcc:

Aww, their voices are so cute! Mine is a re-home and his first owner told me, "He doesn't talk." I took him home and put him to bed and the next morning (the first time I ever uncovered him) he said, "Hi, baby!"

Then later I was washing the dishes and he jumped in the sink and said, "Take a bath! Take a bath!" I was surprised and sad that his first owner (who had him for a year and a half) never realized he was talking because his voice was so gravely!

Thanks for sharing, Friend2parrots! :D I hope some other people come and share their favorite things about their GCCs.

Mine does that with water too. Ollie literally just had a bath so I thought I was safe to have him with me whilst I did the washing up. He started doing that cute little chirping thing and "the dance" before proceding to walk down my arm. Luckily that gave me chance to take him back out the room and he didn't attempt to fly down into it but its not something I ever took the chance with again.

I think everything Ollie does is my favorite thing :) although that said my favorite things can also be slightly annoying at times. These birds know what they want and will work relentlessly to get it at times, like when they want a cuddle but they soon let you know if your not cuddling them how they want!

I love their active streaks and their lazy cuddly ways and how they flip from one to the other in a split second. i love their large personality and intelligence in such a small package and the way they seem to have little rants under their breath for several minutes at a time like everything in their lives is annoying the hell out of them and the sheer joy they display when they find there has been a bath provided for them or a tasty treat. :)

This is so true. Sometimes when my hands are busy my GCC will pounce on my hands and nip my fingers and then as soon as I lift up my fingers to try to shoo him away he shoves his head under my fingers and starts using it as a scratching post.

I did not realize other GCCs did this. Mine will just puff his head up and mutter up a storm. He generally does it when he doesn't get what he wants so I kind of see it as him telling me off!

mine does this under the breath rant too - he does it when he's really interested in something, like a piece of new fruit, or a new toy. he'll do the rant while waddling far away from me with the new thing in his beak, to let me know that he's not sharing. :)

I have to say, our bird never does the 'lean/tick'. Instead, if she wants to go somewhere, but hasn't quite decided to fly yet, she squats down and makes herself super streamlined in that direction while shivering, shiver shiver, shiver shiver, and then suddenly stands super upright and says SQUOO! Repeat over and over!

What you call the 'dance', we call "Phoenix Wright Investigation Bird" due to the resemblance to Phoenix's hairstyle...

And, glad to know that your GCC also finds rock with electric guitars exciting! We only found out by accident that's what Shark likes two days ago, I'm looking forward to finding some sweet guitar solos for her to shake her head to. :gcc:

I could almost agree with this, but there is one thing my GCC does that drives me absolutely nuts, and that is burrowing into clothing. Every single day at some point he tries to climb inside the neck of my shirt and I have to fight with him to get him to stop. When I have clothes hanging in the closet in the den I have to keep the door closed otherwise he flies into the closet and climbs inside the clothes. If I'm wearing a jacket with a hood he disappears into the hood.

I mean it's actually really funny but it also drives me completely insane and it is totally not my favorite thing. LOL

This sounds hilarious, I really wish I could see this!

It's funny because I listen to a very wide variety of music but it's only the rock music with electric guitars that my GCC seems to enjoy because as soon as he hears it he starts dancing and singing along! He doesn't do that to any of the other music I play for him, though.

:gcc: Another thing I really love about my GCC is how colorful he his! I especially love his blue primary feathers! I also like to admire the half and half feathers---ones that are blue on one side and green on the other, or the feathers on his belly that are red with green tips on the end!

Urgh, Ollie has real bad taste in music too, I put a thread up once and I think it was titled "what the boys do" or "what the boys get up to"

Haven't managed to take any other videos of Shark yet, but here she is showing off her superb balancing abilities (with a bit of help from that gorgeous red tail, of course!).

She seems to have difficulty telling the difference between her pellets and her fresh poop (which is pellet-coloured, of course) without actually walking over and licking it... Sometimes she's just not so smart!
