finally we brought our Sun Conure home from the breeder

we finally got the call we've been waiting for for the last 6 weeks... the call from the breeder to tell us our baby was weened and ready to go home to us!!
Being busy during the week we had to wait til Saturday to go get him and friday night we spent a few hours setting up our room for the new baby, assembling the cage, cleaning and rearranging, mounting the tv higher up on the wall so we could fit 2 of our 3 cages under the tv, making more toys, and deciding on what toys to put in each bird's cages etc...
The day finally came and we went to the breeder's house for the first time and to see our baby for the first time in person.
we were waiting for the dna results to come in but we were thinking up a good name for him before we knew if he was a he or she so we decided to name him Koolaid since the name would fit either way.
The dna results came in and he is definitely a he which is a good thing... even tho our parrotlet still thinks he's a she and happily greeted him with the neck dance and telling him "chirp chirp chirp" and "gentle beak" while trying to preen him. We had to put Blue back in his cage for a bit just so Koolaid could relax some, but Koolaid seemed to be happy and content from the moment he stepped out of the pet carrier onto our bed. He spent the rest of the day cuddling with my wife while I spent a LOT of time reassuring Blue that he's still daddy's little buddy. They do seem to be getting along ok but must remain supervised when out of the cage together since Blue still thinks he's a she and is constantly harassing the point... lol
I'm also very happy with Koolaid since he's so chilled out but still playful and wanting to learn all we can teach him, he didn't even know what "step up meant when we brought him home but now he steps up every time just 2 days later.
We were also very happy that the breeder respected our wish to leave him fully flighted and even at this young age he's already flying well but needs to build up more strength and stamina, but that's expected for his age. we were teaching him some flight recall training today and that went very well also.
I really look forward to teaching him new tricks and training him to be a very well mannered but happy bird.

Dave+Karen, it was lovely to read your "bringing baby home" story. its wonderful that the breeder allowed him to remain flighted, and that he's already flying. i think it will take him a few more months to really become a pro at it, as his chest muscles put on mass and he develops heart and lung power.

I think Koolaid is going to be a really happy bird living in your house with you, your family, and your flock. looking forward to hearing more about him on the forum!
