On the car ride home when I just got Jasper he looked at me and started doing a wolf whistle. I was so shocked. I swore it was a one time thing. But ever so often when he's warbling to himself you hear that wolf whistle. Can you in theory teach a bird to repeat a sound they make on their own?
Scooter picked this up, and I don't think it was from us. Maybe the TV. One day when he was in his cage trying to get my attention he popped out with it. It worked! So he's occasionally using it in the same context.
Parakeet picked this up in a couple weeks,of me doing it,though if I dont keep doing it he tends to whistle each part separately...guess he hasnt found a use for it yet

my budgie wolf whistles, i dont go out there to try and teach my birds to talk because its not important to me but lorikeets make the wolf whistle sound backwards naturally which i mistaken it for he learned it but further research its actually one of there calls
I've actually been trying to teach Sadie this, since she has copied clicks and kisses I thought she may step up to the whistle. The other day she actually tried, it was adorable, and I was jumping up and down!
My Pi picked it up immediately from my Amazon. Now all three parrots wolf-whistle. I don't know if it has become their contact call of choice, but it's associated with happieness and excitement. LOL...the Pi wolf-whistles when he gets fed...even while he's eating. It makes a funny little echoing sound from the bottom of his stainless steel food dish...
Every parrot has a duty: To reduce the world to toothpicks.
Yea definitely.. Jasper doesn't do it when I'm alone with him. Then everyone comes and sits at the table and he just can't stop... Impeccable timing on his part haha.
