Lemone' does not talk at all.

How old is your bird? Does he sing? My males take turns being the one to sing. Right now Shadow is my singer.

As far as I can tell because they have such little voices, the males only say two things. They say pretty bird and whatcha doin. I thought they were just repeating words until I reached in the cage to pick one up. He said "whatcha doin to the pretty bird'.

My cockatiel is 5 months old, so still a baby. Recently, he started whistling and talking. It's not perfectly clear what he is saying but it sounds like he is saying "hello" and "good boy".

That is great.

The tiels have such little voices. I am sure mine are saying more that I am just not catching it.

You will probably hear more. I have 6 in a flock so it is a little hard to hear one when the others are making noise.

a good method to use is to get a video of a cockatiel talking on youtube and play it for him he will pick up faster from a sound of another bird

My tiel says nothing, whistles nothing. I estimate her to be born approx 23.03.2011. I have tried singing, talking, dancing with her. We have watched you-tube together countless times. NOTHING! Her idea of you-tube is to attack buttons on computer. I now call him a her because of the lack of any noises. The only sound she makes is a flock call, thats it, nothing else. But I dont care, her personality is so big, that it is better, to me anyway, than her not talking. Plus, I did NOT get a tiel with the expectation of getting a bird that talks, sings or whistles.

Lord have mercy, I can certainly vouch for THAT (especially after raisin' 4 (human) kids)

This post is pretty old, a lot has changed since then:

He is doing great, in terms of vocalisations. He says hello when. I enter the room and he says goodbye when leave! He can also say "hello Ladu", "good boy", "whatcha doing?" and a whole lotta other stuff. He whistles a load too! Sometimes, when he is bored, he just goes through his vocabulary.

I recently played a video of a cockatiel whistling a song, he learned it a day later (from memory, I didn't play it again!) and now he always whistles it and bobs his head when doing so. He is really clever, and is learning more and more words and songs!

They really like the Andy Griffith tune. Shadow and Tommy both whistle with it. Sometimes without it but never at the same time.

Yes, I've been playing at for him on YouTube and he is starting to pick it up. It's really awesome.
