I am now training my conures at different spots in a new park. They are on leash. I am not a high risk taker. I want them to get more exposure at new places. They don't seem to be concern at new places. Conures are very different from African greys. Greys need more time to adjust to new surroundings.

I missed seeing this right off and just saw it. Your conures are doing very well and I am glad that you are not into taking too many risks. We all understand that we have to take some risks every now and then and hopefully we keep our brains functioning properly so that we can tell which risks are worth it and the ones that are not.

Like mammals, birds can be taught to perform what we want them to do. I had done the same routine over and over with them at the same place until I was very sure they could do it without the leash. One of the conures was a bit playful. He wanted to do it his own way. As long as he stays within the playground it is fine with me. Besides free flying them at the playground, I take them for outdoor walk regularly in their hearnesses. The more they go out the calmer they will become. This will help to minimize the risk. I have seen some of my friends who could take their birds out to anywhere without harness. I wouldn't dare to take such risk.

I hear you about that as you never really know what might scare them or when.

The more they are exposed to outdoor surroundings, the braver they will become. I walk them along roadside, crossing the roads and expose them to noises. These are part of the training I am using. They are less likely to get spooked now campared to when we first started.

I really could not see the bird, other than a glimpse one or twice, while it was flying. Pretty bird though and that would have been a very nice flight to have seen.

No free flight here. Can't take the risk of losing my conure in the forest.
