Afraid to fly

Here's the scoop, I have recently started to associate rico with a clicker. He has that down very well. he also has targeting down very well. Now when it comes to flying. he will jump and flap across a small space to get to my hand. He refuses to fly when i move my hand away. I know he can fly very well when startled.

I read an article about scaring your bird to get him to fly, i hear this should only be done when a deep bond is developed. Me and rico have a deep bond.

i also think moving my hand further away when he has jumped for the little space might work (although that sounds kind mean)

Any suggestions would help :-

Where did you read this!? Absolutely not! This is a great way to undo a deep bond pretty quickly. There are plenty of resources available about stimulating your parrot to fly using positive reinforcement:

I knew someone actaully tired and get the bird to fly to him.....
scare the bird (normally they tried to it with fast movement) and the bird with fly to you.......
reward the bird.......possitive reinforcement.
