been sitting next to his cage more and leaving the door open with my hands close he seems calmer but still wont take anything from me, he was out of the cage a while ago and turning off the lights made it easier to catch him but not with bare hands I had to catch him with a towel

Well, be careful you don't scare him too much with the towel grabbing...

Its important they you do not scare the parrot with a towel, as vets will often use a towel, and also you dont want to increase the parrots fear of you. The best time to let him out is when you have lots of time, and can use a favorite treat to lure him back to the cage, or when he gets hungry or thirsty on his own and returns to the cage.

I have found that once they go to roost at night that they can be just picked up. I am able to do this with even the scaredest cockatiels.

Great news!!! And don't worry about your husband. In time, he will accept him.

I hope so, yesterday my friend came over and he was out of his cage and he wasn't bothered by her he kept his distance but I'm sure he'll be more comfortable next time she comes
