I have a 8 month old Parakeet. I got him about 2 weeks ago and he loves me, will climb on my shoulder and step up and target, ETC. all the things that parrots do when they are tame. He is slowly learning tricks but I am stumped! I think he is learning them but he won't take treats from me! I have tried lettuce, carrot, raisin, Sun seeds & millet and he won't take it. I have considered the possibility that he is not aware that I am presenting it to him but wouldn't he smell it? I have tried keeping his food dish out of his cage and wait until he is hungry (5-8 hours i did it for) and he wouldn't take it; however he did eat from a food bowl and from my hand kept flat WHEN he was hungry and only the parrot food not anything else except millet only off the stock and in seeds. I highly think that he trusts me and that is NOT the problem. I start teaching him tricks when he is hungry and reward him with the food bowl BUT after a couple bites he becomes full and uncooperative and no longer does the tricks without becoming nippy or impatient. So until he takes treats I think its wise to discontinue training until I get your advice.
Help appreciated,
