Budgie training

Postby Hendrik Bakker » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:54 pm

Hi Michael,

I bought a little wee budgie about 9 months ago. He's very happy sitting on my hand and shoulder, but when I pick him up with my hand around his back, he tends to go a little crazy. Do you, or anyone, have any tips as to how I can train him to do that? Or is there any specific way I need to hold him?

Your budgie is scared, that's all. If you want to try to get your bird using to you holding it that way, you need to bring your hand closer and closer to the position of holding it and reward it each time you do. You need to repeat this a lot of times until you can finally wrap your hand around it and reward it. It's a long process and if you do it without forcing it will probably take a long time.
