Training the fetch

Postby NuItch » Mon Apr 18, 2011 5:06 am

I've been trick training Greenie for almost two weeks and this is his progress so far.
He picked up the fetch today so I thought I'd share a video.
One issue that I had with teaching the fetch is that once Greenie figured out he needed to drop the object to earn a treat he just started flinging the objects around as soon as I would hand it to him.
I found Michael's technique of ignoring him when he does this very helpful.

Chico's having some motivation issues so I've been going through all sorts treats and I think passion fruit may be a winner so hopefully I'll be able to share some of his videos too.
I don't use the clicker which may be slowing down Chico's progress as he may not fully understand when I'm bridging so I'm going to start using that tomorrow, hopefully that will help too.
At the moment Chico doesn't seem to care when I ignore the behaviour and continues to fling the object in any direction but I'm hoping once I figure out a good reward for him that will stop.

Wow nice work :) . About finding a treat you can use his food as treats , just make sure he is hungry . You can remove food from his cage for 3 hours and after they end start training giving him food as treats .it will work very well. It worked with my budgie :D. Michael wrote about using food as treats in one of his topics ,not sure which one but look in his taming and training topics . Good luck :)
