MORE TARGET TRAINING PROBLEMS! please reply asap!!!

Ok, well, my budgie has a problem in target training. I hold the target in its face, yet he still does nothing! He stands there and think "why is this dude holding a stick up against my face like that? Hmmm maybe if i ignore him he'll go away!". he wont even look at the target stick. please can you guys help me on this? i already made a topic on this and it still didnt work.

When I target trained Logan, he was very keen to reach out and nip the weird stick I put in front of his face, so this wasn't a problem for me. I do have a suggestion though. If he's just standing there like a deer in the headlights when you bring the stick near, then why not bring the stick to touch his beak yourself, then click and reward. It won't take long for the budgie to figure out stick+beak=delicious treat. After a bit, you can try just holding the stick in front of him and see if he'll finish the equation. I think it should work. Let me know if it doesn't.

Well, it's not going to work the first time you try it. Just give it a little bit of time and make sure he's motivated by whatever treat you are offering to him.

I think your budgie just got the case of the lazies some birds i've heard of would rather you do the work and it gets the treat

he just might not be able to do that all birds are differnt try just training him to come.

I had that same problem when I began with Perry. I slightly pushed his top beak up to make him bite, then clicked and rewarded. After a while, like 3 weeks, he started to bite the stick for himself. Then when Lemonlime moved in, she saw me training Perry and quickly figured out that bite+stick=treat! So now they are masters.
