Turn around is an easy trick to start with and demonstrates the parrot understanding a command.

Flight recall is one of my cockatiels favourite tricks. It is basically when u call ur tiel and he flies to u on command. Another easy one is target training, check it out in one of michaels articles.

:sun: I am sad to say that cockatiels arent the best kind of bird to train for tricks.
although.. I taught my cockatiel to dance and talk. Training a bird to talk isnt as hard as it sounds. for example: If you wanted to teach your bird how to say "hello"... every time you walk into the room say "hello" to him or her.
SAY THE WORD WHILE DOING THE ACTION
GOOD LUCK!

[quote="LemonLover"how do I teach them to copy a whistle tune? [/quote]

i saw a cockatiel talking and whistling on youtube and the way his owner said that she taught him by repeating the same word over and over and record it on computer and play it when she is not setting with him . so i think same method can be used to teach him to whistle tunes .you can whistle it for him and he will finally learn it . or you can download the video of a cockatiel whistling whatever tune you like convert it to mp3 and play it near him over and over again .

Well it really depends on the personality of the cockatiel, my cockatiel loves learning tricks. He can do flight recall, target, back to perch and shake. But for example, my uncles cockatiels can't do tricks so it really depends. Saying that, it did take me almost a month to make him want to learn tricks.

Repatition is how they learn to say a word. Using the same words in the same situation is how you teach them to use the word.

The first thing you say in the morning - good morning
The last thing you say at night - good night (or as :amazon: Rambo says "nit nite")
When you walk in the room you say hello. When you walk out you say bye by.
You say step up and hold your finger out and they know what you mean.
When one gets it's foot caught or get into a situation you ask do you need help. Help is important.
( :amazon: will call for help if I am in another room. He knows come here means come to where I am. He yelled "help come here hurry hurry" when the neighbors cat came through the cat door.)

They do not learn to say a word as fast as with repatition but if you talk to them like a child, they will learn to talk as a child does.
