I tend to feel this way about mine, too. The Sun seems to be a lot dumber than the GCC. I've stopped myself from drawing this conclusion, however, because the Sun is still young and developing. She is just 4 months old now, while the GCC is a young adult.

The Sun moves slowly, acts slowly, sounds more stupid (due to the sun conure voice), and in general seems more dull than the GCC. Of course, the GCC is a much smaller bird so does move more quickly. But he's more focused and alert as well.

Then again, before getting the Sun, I've been trying for about a year to potty train the GCC, and the Sun picked it up in a week. The Sun also picked up how to say hello in about two days, while the GCC still doesn't seem to say it. So, I guess they are differently talented.

Another reason is that the Sun is much less bribable with treats.

Almost everything that you describe is how my little guys are. The sun seems less intelligent than the green cheek. As for vocalizations, the GCC says "I love you" & "hello" & "Nikki" (my dogs name). The sun mumbles wierd noises, but they are by no means words. Either way, the sun has always been about a week behind the gcc because that is how long it took for the sun to reallize that he had to stay on the perch to "go to school". So by the time the sun would stay on the perch the full 10 minutes the green cheek was targeting and waving. It will come I am sure, I love both my little guys dearly and will put in as much as it takes to keep them happy.

Fetch is a little slow going, definatly the hardest trick for Stitch yet. He's picked up that he has to collect the object and is beginning to move towards the bowl before dropping it, but so far its about half and half in or out of the bowl (and thats with us holding it right under him some of the time). We'll keep practicing!

Today was my first day of "fetch". The GCC definitely does not yet understand, but the sun appears to be catching on. You can almost see the wheels turning in his little head. He is smarter than he plays on.

Hows the fetch training going ottis? Stitch is progressing now, and gets that he has to put the object in the bowl and will most often walk towards the bowl over the perch. Sometimes he misses the bowl though, but he understands that it has to go into the bowl.

Mine is going slowly. They know they they get treats when ball enters cup, but they don't reallize it is thier responsibility to put it there. I will work on it more and more, but I think this will take awhile!!

I think the key thing is to be superhard on when they miss the bowl, even if they tried so hard to get it in and it fell just outside, they shouldnt be rewarded for it!

The Sun isn't stupid. The Green Cheek is just smarter

Think of it in IQ levels. The Sun is 110 and the Green Cheek is 150.

My son is 135 and my daughter is 147. Since high school my son has learned many things through the internet. (He is Koldthumb in the snake forums and well known world wide for his geniology studies.) My daughter plays Farm and Fish games on the computer.

If they miss the bowl, no treat...period. The sun actually tries to put it in the cup, but the green cheek just grabs and throws the ball, sometimes in the cup other times wherever, but I do not think the green cheek has ever put it in the cup on purpose...the sun has!!! Still slow, I will update in a week!
