Teaching "Flip a card"

Postby cml » Fri Mar 30, 2012 12:48 pm

Today I tried a new trick with Stitch, flip, and I think he "sort of" got it.
I didnt know how to teach it to him, so what I did was to hold it slightly over the ground and say flip.
Then when he did I clicked and rewarded. He seemed to get it.

Sometimes though, he would rather play with the card. Having cards made of paper wasnt a good idea I think, he tore about 3 apart.

Any suggestions on a different approach?

We're making progress! My wife trained flip with Stitch and he was great at it. Just have to work on getting it on cue now =)!

Well, Stitch already knew how to hold something, he loves foot toys and he already knew "Fetch".
What we did was just giving him the card for starters, and when he took it and it flipped, we clicked and rewarded. He is by no means an expert card flipper yet, but he is getting there =)!

If your tiel cant hold stuff yet, I would suggest you start with teaching it fetch first. ;)
