Proud of Oscar

Postby Wayne361 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 12:20 pm

Nothing informative here just saying that i have been training oscar to tolerate nail clipping times and last night was his best clipping yet. He layed relaxed in my hand as I did every talon on both feet and rewarded at end. He went from being deathly afraid of the clippers to now responding positively when I have to do the deed. I was worried that maybe he would be skittish as nail clipping is not a frequent event but nope he did amazing. The power of positive reinforcement is huge....

Oh! good for you~~Oscar sounds like a good boy...I usually take my U2 to the vet for that, but I think at this point I could start working with him & do it myself..thanks for the reminder :)

wow, great work with Oscar! :senegal:

i'm hoping to teach my GCC and my Bourke this essential skill as well. Ive never trimmed either of their nails because they generally stay trim enough to handle from hanging out on their perches, etc. and both are too lightweight to punch holes in my hand even when their nails get on the sharper side. but its a good skill for them to learn how to have their feet handled, in case theres something wrong, or they snag their nails on something and need help.

Excellent well done.
Actually quite jealous as I did have Ollie trained but its gone to pot a bit as he is scared of me restraining him from medicating him and that.
His nails need a trim and I need to start all over again from scratch.
