Poop question!

Postby Strawfrawg » Wed Apr 10, 2013 11:04 am

My new baby Sennie, Marvin, has runny yellowish poop in the morning. After he has breakfast it firms up and is a good brown color with distinct white urates for the rest of the day. The yellowish color in the morning concerns me, though. It's a pretty sharp hue. What could this mean?

How long has he been off the eggfood/ baby formula?

Or are you still topping him up with soft foods?

If its just one in the morning and the rest are all perfect I wouldn't worry.

You can always bring it up when you take your bird for his new bird cbheck to be sure (please do this even if you think nothings wrong so the vet can get a feel for what is normal for your bird on record)

He's been off formula for almost two weeks, but he gets a little cooked grain mash in the morning with the rest of his breakfast. The yellow poop comes before that.

He's done it several days in a row, with his next poop and the rest of the day being fine. The breeder said it was only a concern if it didn't firm up and color-correct later in the day, and Marvin is seeing the vet for his baseline appointment next week so we'll get another opinion then. Hopefully it's nothing. I wonder if it has something to do with the rate at which he self-weaned. maybe his body wasn't quite ready? The breeder said he was about 10 days ahead of the other two in his clutch. He had his first bite of solid food and decided he was done handfeeding...she had to really coax him to take a little formula for a few extra days to make sure he was getting enough calories. Maybe his little system isn't ready for his big-boy eating habits? It doesn't quite make sense, but I'm stumped.

Just take a sample with you to the vets to show him, both of the yellow one and a normal version, they will advise you. I'm sure its nothing though if its just one but better safe and have it dealt with now if it does turn out to be something.

I don't have the same parrot as you, but our GCC has scary BIG discolored scary poop in the morning. Then maybe for a few more poops, then normal the rest of the day. My vet said this was completely normal. But good to check anyway!

Thanks, guys. My vet looked at a sample of the scary poop as well as his regular poop from later in the day and said it's not a problem. :)
