Taking baby Bourke's for handraising?

Postby dylbagz » Tue May 07, 2013 4:13 am

My Bourke's are about to have their first clutch ever, male has been mounting his girl and she's spent the better part of the last three days in the nest, so eggs are on their way. Just wondering if anyone here has handraised baby Bourke's before? And what age should I take them from the nest for a good result? I don't want to take them too young as I would like the parents to get a little bit of experience in bringing up their young.

Cheers

It might be better to let the parents raise them, then once they are independent start taming them. Hand rearing can have its problems and the bird will be healthier if raised by its parents. I have cockatiels but having read interesting debates elsewhere on the forum about hand reared vs parent raised and owning one of each I would advocate for this method.
