hair dye?!? HELP!

Postby feathermum » Fri Jun 14, 2013 10:43 am

I have not colored my hair in a few yrs, and since i'v only had parrots for the past 8 mos, well u get the picture. I'm wicked board of my color, and wanna change!!! my Spartacus LOVES to preen hair though...what do to?!? can I still do it & just try to keep him away from my hair for a couple days?? or forever? seriously I NEVER use hair product ( shampoo /condiner) ...I would imagine it's bad for them, but how bad? how long till he could preen my hair?

another thing, what about nail polish?? I only wear it in the summer, but now not sure if I should...since I tend to get many nips on my fingertips. mostly @ work, but I see others w/ it on, soooo is that ok??? this probly seems like a weird question(s) but, I worry 'bout my Fids..... ( so please don't make fun) ~ lol :?

I am not an expert, but, the shampoo etc is something Ive thought about as well.
Because of it, we only use eco-friendly, perfume free, and allergy-approved shampoo, conditioner and soap. Its the "nicest" shampoo you'll find and I think its awesome, and my scalp itches less as well, so its good for me too.

I dont know much about hair colouring ^^, but I dont think its an issue, (maybe dont do it at home though for potential fumes?), and be sure to wash your hair many times afterwards, with shampoo ;). Keep your bird away from your hair for a few days, and be sure to rinse it lots and lots. I cant see how it could be an issue if you do that, but I'd hold off until someone more knowledgable about haircolouring etc gives you a reply ^^!

Well, I don't see a problem as long as the dye is settled into the follicle and washed/dried... not like, wet and processing on your hair while coloring it. :D

Nail polish... well, that is, assuming your parrot isn't afraid of it, as Tiki ignored me for days after I last painted my fingernails...

If you want a good, all natural shampoo/conditioner look into Real Purity. I LOVE all of their stuff and it's formulated by a Naturopath. It's a bit spendy, though.

If you're interested in all natural soap, contact ME as I make it. Teehee

Problem is you can't wash your hair with shampoo after coloring it or the color will degrade (I still do it though and just color it more often).

When colouring your hair, always consider skin tone and natural hair colour. Well you can try,Rinse with chamomile tea of blonde hair and enhance shine. There's no real benefit to using products made specifically for color-treated hair. I would like to suggest braid oil .They have all products with its best result....It's results and effects are long lasting and amazing too!!!

I always wash my hair with shampoo twice after coloring. If you just follow the directions you still have particles in your hair. I don't think color will hurt. Myrtle loves to preen my hair while it is still wet. Unless your bird is one of those that try to illuminate non natural things then you nail polish should also be okay.
Just watch if she goes for the nails.

I love to hear of humans being so conserned for their birds.

I colour my hair as well, mostly to cover the grey. I have discouraged preening of my hair because I read that it can become lodged inside a bird and has caused death, however, I do not know how prevalent an issue this is.

I cannot wear nail polish because the conures and kakariki are attracted by it and constantly tried to pick at my nails, so I took it off.

I remember the first time Jasper :gcc: saw me with mascara on he promptly began trying to remove the offensive stuff from 'mommy's' eyes.

I've gone white and keep my nails short and without anything on them.
