Umbrella with broken beak

Postby Umbrella21 » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:02 am

Hello. I have a 2 year old Umbrella named Noel. Yesterday, she was very quiet, and not her normal self. Tried calling the vet to see if we could get in, and the Avian vet is not in until Tuesday. It is much too far to take her otherwise, unless the Avian vet is here at our local vet. This morning, I noticed some blood on her beak, and on one of her feet. She has done this before, and there is no evidence in her cage as to why or what happened. She is eating better today than she was yesterday, but she is still very quiet, and when I put her in her cage, she goes in the corner and sleeps. She is not her usual loud self, and has no interest in toys, or her seed. She ate some mashed potatoes this morning, so at least it was something. I'm very concerned, and need some help. Any advice? :cockatoo:

I would try to get a vet appointment, even if its far away. If it is at all possible, that is the best course of action.

If you cant, you will need to keep a very close eye on your too, and as soon as you see something out of the ordinary, you really NEED to go to a vet. Also, weigh your parrot everyday to make sure it doesnt lose weight. Keep a very close watch.

Birds are very good at hiding that they are in pain or are sick, it might be too late if you wait.
My reccommendation is therefore to try and get a vet appointment if you are worried.

The vet closest to us is about 4 hours away. I really don't want to take her that far, and stress her out that much. So the vet really is not an option, as I said above. If the condition persists, I will take her on Tuesday. As I said, she seems a little better today.

Okay, I hope she will be alright :).

Be sure to pay her lots of attention and be ready if her situation deteriorates.

Welcome to the forum btw!
