do you leave your birds during the day?

Postby dan4 » Wed Jul 31, 2013 4:43 am

I leave my IRN during the day, 5 days a week. He doesnt seem overly bothered by this so far, he does pace sometimes when I'm there but I feel this is more to get out the cage for some training etc

I'll be leaving the new cockatoo as well however they will be in a room together, I've bought a small radio to leave on during the day. I'm hoping they will keep eachother occupied with the music, toys and chatting. What does anyone else do?

My birds are alone for hours during the day but there's a number of them together (and I always try to have two of each species) and they are not caged so they interact with each other all the time.

some friends of mine are lucky enough to be able to take their birds to work. i'm a stay at home mom who does childcare for extra income for the family. my son's father works and makes enough for me to do this. but if I go visit friends or family she comes too.

Hi ,I work 8-3 [I have 3 Toos] .I get up and make sure they have some time out before I leave. I think whats important .Is to try right off ,get your out of cage time established [and be consistent].Two of mine were rehomes with problems. For some reason they were very insecure .Until they were consistently taken out. Do something realistic you can keep up with. BTW [I bet both birds will enjoy each others company] The radios a good idea :D

Yes, they are alone for 5 hours a day on weekdays.

Thats why we have two, they keep each other company :)!

Also:
I've bought a small radio to leave on during the day. I'm hoping they will keep eachother occupied with the music, toys and chatting. What does anyone else do?

This is a great thing, I got a radio as well - set to start and turn off during the day with a timer. This allows them to have the entertainment, but also a couple of hours of quiet.

Yes, they need quiet at noon for their rest period so timers are a great idea.

I do leave mine, but that's we got two. Usually my partner is home but he's working in a separate part of the house so its almost like he's not there. They have a large cage but are still out well over 4 hours per day.

My budgies are left alone for 10 hours a day, 4 days a week. Of course they don't care as they have each other. But even when I had just Wheatley he didn't care, he prefers other birds to me. He tolerates me xD But I would always leave the radio on for him and he was fine.
