Bird Bath

Postby Gohan » Sat Aug 17, 2013 1:54 pm

My parrot hates to bath so can anyone suggest a way to make him clean and do we have to use any shampoo or something too?

Get a spray bottle and full it with water. Then, spray it above your parrot so it lands on him/her and he/she should enjoy it

Never use shampoos, you can try spraying but introduce it gently, spray it near the bird to start with and you can gradually move the spray closer. Let the bird watch you in the shower or just keep offering shallow bowls of water. Whatever you do don't force the issue.

Yep, shampoos are just a con by pet companies. As Marie said, don't force anything, it will only make the bird lose any trust in you.

You can do the misting as it was suggested (start by misting near his feet but not on them, then get it closer until you wet the feet and work your way up OR spray from a distance pointing up so the mist falls like rain on the bird) but, at the same time, you should always give the bird a bath bowl. Now, the thing with bath bowls is that some of them are very picky as to what they will use (it can be a shallow and large bowl or a deep and large or a shallow and small or a deep and small but it can also be material -I have a GCC that will only use a medium size, transparent, round or oval plastic bowl, if you give him metal, colored plastic, porcelain or any other size or shape, he will not use it) so you have to experiment.
