Help finding luna a friend :)

Postby xxarmando » Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:50 pm

hello my name is Annette :) I have a two year old male Quaker parrot named (luna). We have had him since he was 4 months old.We found out it was a boy a few months ago through a DNA test haha. I wanted to ask your advice on getting Luna a best friend. Right now I know birds are a lifetime commitment I am currently thinking of the future. I want to get Luna a friend since at the moment my husband and I are college students and both have 20 - 30 hour work shifts.

After work Luna is always out in the afternoons and is flying around our room from 6-10:00 at night. During the day he hangs out in his flight cage in my brother in laws room where he also has his two cockatiels. Luna is not very friendly with the cockatiels he always tries attacking them to assert his dominance. I would like to get Luna a friend for him not to be so lonely when we move out. Also for him to have a cage buddy for the rest of his life.

I am not looking for a mate since eggs are a little complicated and having baby birds will break my heart having to give them away. I am debating whether or not getting a bird now or later. Right now I know we will need to spend same amount of time with both birds especially while bonding. Yet Luna is incredibly jealous he attacks either one of us if we are gone away for too long.

Overall he is very possessive of Armando and I so i do fear having another bird he will kill it. I am also not sure if it's better to get a friend now that he is younger or within 2-3 years from now when we have a bigger place and work full time. Please let me know of any of your experiences of getting a new flock mate . Thank you for the advice ahead of time :) - Annette :monk: :monk:

I don't know much about quakers but I've heard they can get very territorial and one-person-oriented. From what I know quakers don't make friends very easily either.
