Emmi thinks she's funny??

Postby KimberlyAnn » Tue Nov 19, 2013 1:03 am

Emmi started this thing a few months back and we can't seem to find the cause other then she thinks it gets a reaction. We will hold her and nothing will be happening, then she squawks once really loud in our face which makes me jump...then bobs her head like she's done something fantastic. After that, she will do it a few more times until we distract her with something else or put her on her cage...then she just comes back without the squawking.

What is she doing and why? It happens most when she is snuggling next to my face on my finger. Is this a sign of play? Does she think she's funny? She is definitely watching our face when she does this. Do I just live with this? Or is it something she will grow out of? I hope? Lol

Sounds like she's made a game- scare the human! I've heard of parrots who will throw toys and wait for their owners to pick them up- and throw them again! I think you'll have to ignore it, like biting. Try not to react, if you can, or maybe look away.

my brownheaded does a firealarm beep, like the beep when the batterywarning is going, like a strong, and i really mean STRONG, beeep. He used to do this quite frequent when he first moved in with me, nowdays he only does it in 2 cases, one being when someone unfamiliar reaches for him, if you doesnt jump he will throw his head down for a scritch, or you jump and he will then run to my other shoulder to hide, or if someone reaches for his cage and he does this he will back off the bars if you flinch when he does this. The other occation is with my sister, anytime she walks by he will do this, and in this instance it seems more like a fun game because he will just resume to normal after the beep and wanting to cuddle, he actually sometimes beeps at her and then flies to her to get his head scratched... Dunno why he does this really but he does and well I don't really think about it too much he does tons of different beeps and ringtones so he is always making some noice but this beep is quite harsh on the ears wich is why i think alot of people jump when he does it.

Emmi: "Trolololol"

Yup! LOL exactly! She did it to my mom at Christmas, made her gasp. Then she did a little dance. At least it does not happen all the time?
