Music and Parrots

Postby GreenWing » Mon Jan 20, 2014 6:58 pm

Starting this post due to a conversation with Wolf in a separate post (thanks, Wolf, for the inspiration) :D

I have personally found that parrots love music. Certain types of music, like Hawaiian and also any relaxing music with an ocarina playing, Chance either relaxes or sings along.

Chance LOVES this relaxing, beautiful song. She is currently enjoying it now as I type :)

Do your parrots enjoy music? And if so, how does music affect them?

Well, so far Skeeter really seems taken with anything by Enya and a few of Beethoven's piano sonatas. He dislikes the sound of the garbage truck VERY much.

I'll play the Rainbow song for him and report back....

Both parrots love music, Leroy especially - he loves to chirp along.

Unfortunatly music makes his hormonal screaming worse as well, so the radio is turned off for a few days.

I leave the radio on a soft music station for my Senegal, it keeps her and the dogs company when I am out.

Yup, he liked the rainbow song. He murmured softly at it and clicked his beak a few times. There were a few other songs by this artist that he liked, as well. It's kind of fun yet odd, listening to Hawaiian music when there's snow on the ground outside...

I am going to try the rainbow song on my baby, Harley who is a senegal parrot. He listens to soft rock and pop music. :senegal: I am interested to see how he likes it.

Emmi likes anything with a good beat now. She just can't get enough of dancing. Her favorite song right now is "Season of the Witch" by Donovan. She struts around with her wings raised up (not open) like she's pacing and thinking over something important...then goes for side to side head bob really fast! Then the twirling and normal head bobbing.

Today she enjoyed Daft Punk and Tiesto. So did I! Lol

Love the replies, all, I am going to try the "soundscapes" :) Weka, I love your Beethoven suggestion. Chance likes classical, as well! So glad Skeeter liked the rainbow song. I had to play it just now for Chance.

OMG! I love Daft Punk! Emmi has good taste

I'm playing "Get Lucky" for her right now. She just whistled! She likes it, too :)
