Can I trim Mitchell's nails?

A bird would not die from having a nail trimmed to short the same way it would not die from having a blood feather pulled. Their blood doesn't clot the same way ours do but nature is not that foolish as to make a bird bleed to death from such a little wound that could happen in the wild all the time (have you seen how many pigeons there are with toes and even feet missing?)

It was just something I was told by parrot people, that a bird bled to death when a nail was cut too short. In any event, it's still a good thing, I think, to be shown how to do it than taking it on yourself... especially when it concerns your bird. I let others do it. Chance needs to be toweled.

Yes, lots of erroneous information out there been disseminated by parrot people and that's why I always tell people not to take anybody's word for anything (not even mine!) and to do their own research as well as using common sense. Birds in the wild have all kinds of accidents and don't die, they are much hardier than most people give them credit for. But, when it comes to trimming nails or deformed beaks, it's always better to have somebody with experience do it for you at the beginning and explain things as they are doing them (with one watching over the shoulder) so one can learn. I also do not believe in experimenting and learning as you go on your own.
