tv problems

Hi there my b&g macaw Chico has a java tree in my living room and a bedroom upstairs the problem I have is Chico flies off the java tree then lands on my TV and starts chewing it. It's a very expensive tv so I don't want it getting damaged. Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop chico landing on it I've done the usual things removing him telling him No naughty boy and all that.

Yeah, anything but that. Sounds like you have successfully taught and encouraged him to go to the TV.

The trick with parrots is to re-direct so, what I would do is give him something he would like very much to distract him from the TV (mine LOVE big cardboard boxes) and to put something on the TV that he does not like (they usually hate those long foam tubes that children use to bang each other over the head with -I think they think it's a snake and mine would not go near one if you forced them).

I would put something on the TV to prevent him from wanting to go there. Don't react verbally as some parrots get a kick out of trolling us, lol, and he might keep going to the TV to get a reaction out of you. Tape down any wiring for his own safety, and if possible, maybe cover the top of the TV with a blanket. Meanwhile make sure your bird has plenty of foraging toys and praise him when he plays with it... I stuff some of Chance's toys with safe paper to shred and it works like gem.
Also I know cml has "parrot-proofed" his home pretty well so hopefully he'll weigh in on his two cents.

I would definitely NOT put a blanket on top of your TV, it would be a fire hazard and also shorten the life of the TV due to overheating.
