Going by the medical definition, although psychosis can be caused by trauma or disease, the 'behavioral' part of it is just a symptom. But, in reality, this is neither here nor there because plucking and self-mutilation are considered (at least, so far) as stereotypic behavior found only in captivity so it's always, one way or another, something that we cause.
