Clipped Wings are driving me crazy

Postby Faraaz » Wed Apr 30, 2014 5:20 pm

Trumans wings are clipped and I am really upset about that so I contacted the breeder why they clipped their wings and this was their response:

"Hello ******,

We are sorry to do this action against the bird but we never clip the wings for any bird without the owner asking us too. You probably asked one of our associates to clip the birds wings. It costed about $40 extra, please refer to the receipt for more details.

Thanks,
Richard *****"

$40 BUCKS WHEN I NEVER ASK THEM TO CLIP MY BIRDS WINGS????? So this is what I said:

"I never asked you guys to clip my birds wings and I want flighted parrots not parrots that can only walk. I want a refund of this $40."

Then they responded:

"Sorry sir but please refer to the receipt of no refunds"

I was so upset that I just walked away from the computer.

So my question is how long does it for a bird to grow back its wings? Do I need to help it grow back its wings?

It is hard to say, but it seems to me that it would take until their next molt, as a general rule of thumb.
I read so many posts about birds that have their wings clipped when the people receive them and a large percentage of them say that they tried to get the breeder to not clip their birds wings with no success. Based upon this, I would not think that your breeder was being honest with you.

Wish we could just be able to use a glue on temporary patch. Really wish that breeders would just stop clipping birds wings.

Sorry you had to deal with that ignorant breeder. If you can find the right type of feathers then there's a procedure called imping which will restore flight whilst your waiting for the new feathers to grow in. I would strongly recommend getting it done if possible.

They'll be going into molt in July so he will regain half the clipped primaries then which will allow for flight. He won't have as much control over maneuvers like tight turns and landing but he will adjust and be able to fly. Next year, he will molt the other half and have a full plumage.
